Early Autumn 2024 Handbuilding Basics: Fall Edition (Sept - Oct)

Introduction to the fundamentals of forming clay by hand, with a focus on fabulous fall forms. In this course you will be using pinching and coiling techniques as well as soft slab construction to create organic autumn forms like mushrooms, gourds, and pumpkin lanterns that are well suited to the foundational handbuilding techniques mentioned above. Functional objects such as travel/soup mugs and nesting leaf plates  may also be explored. 

Surface decorating techniques such as piercing, carving, slip application and botanical impressions will be taught to allow the student many options for altering and personalizing each piece.

Please note that all materials and tools will be provided. 

We do not provide aprons so please bring one or dress in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. You may also want to bring a towel for your hands.

The class duration is 2.5 hour, clean up is included in this time.

This class is intended for all levels. It is open to all adults and teenagers from ages 15 and up.
