Building on the 3 week Fundamentals of Sculpting summer course, this 6 week course introduces students to the fundamental principles of sculpting, with a specific focus on human facial features.
Through this course, students will learn to "see" these human facial features with an analytical eye, breaking them down into simpler shapes in order to better understand their individual anatomical structures. The human face, though intensely familiar, can be frustratingly tricky to capture accurately. Eyes, ears, lips, and noses present challenges when sculpted due to the complexity of their individual forms, and the fine distinction required to capture their realistic appearance.
Additionally, the course covers the basics of colour theory, emphasizing the importance of layering and colour in creating depth and lifelike shadows. Underglaze, oxides and glazes will be utilized to put theory into practice and create 'realistic' human skin tones and complexion on your facial feature tiles.
We do not provide aprons so please bring one or dress in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. You may also want to bring a towel for your hands.
The class duration is 2.5 hours. Clean up is included in this time.
Open to all adults and teenagers aged 15 and up.
