Join ceramic artist and educator Anne Nicol at LOAM Clay Studio for a day of learning how to make and decorate beautiful hanging ornaments in Anne's distinctive style!
About the Workshop
"Amazing Ornaments" with Anne Nicol is a full day masterclass in how to handbuild delicate, elegant and playful holiday ornaments. The morning portion of the workshop focuses on the build: Anne will demo how she cleverly combines pillow moulds, coils and soft slabs to create voluminous ornamental forms that are then used as the base for a hanging ornament, bell, or keepsake.
The afternoon portion focuses on finishing and decorating the pillowed forms with discreet sculpted elements and various decorative surface additions including slip trailing, extruded coils, sprigs, and underglaze and slip transfers.
Note: Workshop pieces will be glaze fired in a LOAM studio glaze of your choice.Every effort will be made for your ornaments to be fired and ready for pickup by Dec 23.PSH 516 white clay and nichrome ornament wires (enough to make 3-4 ornaments) will be provided. LOAM open studio members may use their own inside clay if they wish, and are encouraged to make their own pillow molds for use in the workshop.
Ideal participant:This workshop is perfect for wheel throwers and handbuilders with some experience who are keen to explore combining techniques to create original forms. We also welcome more experienced handbuilders who wish to explore fine detail surface decoration under Anne's expert guidance.
