Spring 2021 Handbuilding Basics - Slab Construction and Pinching (April 11,18,25 May 2,9,16)

Introduction to the fundamentals of forming clay by hand. In this course you will be rolling slabs of clay and using these to construct some simple and some more complex shapes. You will also learn the pinching technique, which shapes clay by gently pinching with your fingers.  Finally, you will learn surface decorating techniques such as carving, stamping, sgraffito and sprigs. Projects will be geared to the student’s experience level. Students will have the option of trying example projects or they may try working on their own ideas if appropriate to the experience level. The sample projects shown in each class may include, mugs, plates, pitchers, planters, vases, boxes or others!  Come challenge your imagination!

Please note that all materials and tools will be provided. 

We do not provide aprons so please bring one or dress in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. You may also want to bring a towel for your hands.

This class is intended for all levels. It is open to all adults and teenagers from ages 13 and up.

Covid safety protocols.

Our classes will have no more than 6 people in them so that we can ensure a safe distance between you. Fewer students also means that you will have plenty of individual attention from the teacher.
