Winter 2023 Introduction to Clay - Wheel & Handbuilding (Jan-Feb)

 This unique class is the perfect way for beginner’s with little to no pottery experience to learn how to work with clay using both the wheel and well as handbuilding. During this six week class you will complete projects using both methods.

You will learn the fundamentals of forming clay by hand. In this course you will be rolling slabs of clay and using these to construct some simple and some more complex shapes. You will also learn the pinching technique, surface decorating techniques such as carving, stamping, graffito and sprigs.

In addition students will also learn basic skills such as wedging, centering, throwing simple forms, trimming as well as simple and effective glazing techniques.

You can expect to make 3-6 pieces in this class.

Please note that all materials and tools will be provided. 

We do not provide aprons so please bring one or dress in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. You may also want to bring a towel for your hands.

The class duration is 2.5 hour, clean up is included in this time. 

This class is intended for all levels. It is open to all adults and youth from ages 15 and up.
