Light meets clay in this two-day intensive focused on the design and construction of contemporary architectural lamps.

This workshop explores lamps as functional design objects. Think clean lines, geometric forms, arches, curves, negative space, repetition and unexpected silhouettes — pieces that feel as much like small-scale architecture as they do ceramics.

Participants will design and handbuild their own ceramic lamp base using slab and sculptural construction techniques, with a focus on proportion, balance, structure and stability. 

Light itself becomes part of the design process. Participants will consider how bulb shape, scale, placement and colour temperature interact with their ceramic form and influence the overall presence of the finished lamp.

This intensive combines structured instruction with generous independent studio time. Each morning begins with demonstrations, technical guidance and supported building from 10:00am–2:00pm, followed by independent practice from 2:00–5:00pm to continue developing and refining your work.

This workshop is open to all skill levels, including beginners.

It is especially well suited to anyone interested in contemporary ceramics, functional design, architecture and exploring the relationship between form and light.
