Clay & Memory: A Ceramic Altar Workshop with Saivani Sanassy

Clay & Memory: A Ceramic Altar Workshop with Saivani Sanassy

Sundays, from May 25 to June 22, 2025 | 1:00pm - 3:30pm

Saivani Sanassy is a Mauritian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Ottawa who loves to explore natural and fantastical subjects through watercolour, ceramics, and jewelry.

Course description

Join us for a deeply meaningful and creative workshop where we use the grounding nature of clay to honour those we have lost. This is not a grief circle, but an artistic space to gently process memory and loss through hands-on making, reflection, and the creation of personal altars.

Together, we will explore how ceramic art can hold stories, preserve connection, and offer peace. Each participant will create an altar, a physical tribute to a loved one, that can live on in your home as a source of remembrance and comfort.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll be guided in shaping clay with intention, incorporating symbolic elements, textures, and photographic imagery that reflect your memories. We’ll explore techniques like underglaze imprints and photolithography image transfers on clay, giving you tools to embed meaningful patterns or images into your piece.                                                                                                                                                                        No ceramic experience is needed, just bring your memories and an open heart.
