Late-Summer 2025 Wheel-y Tall: Wheel Skills for Beginners

This is a six week introductory course working with clay on the potter’s wheel for students with a little bit of wheel experience who would like to make taller forms.  This course focuses on skills training, so be prepared to cut through a lot of your pieces!  Throwing simple cylinder forms with a focus on gaining height will be the main goal of this class, along with collaring in to make necks and bottle forms.

Once you've made some taller forms, learning how to trim a tall(er) cylinder or bottle shape is the next skill to master! You'll learn strategies for tackling these tippy forms, including how to make and use your own chucks. The final class will be all about how to simple and effective glazing techniques for your newest, tallest creations to date. You can expect to make - and break - a lot of pieces in this class, but you can still expect to go home with 2-4 tall forms.

Our classes are intended for adults and youth aged 15+.
