W2+ Special Series - Spill the Tea with CPT: Teaware off the Hump (6 weeks)

Steep yourself in the complexities of throwing off the hump and making a form from multiple thrown parts!

This 6 week course explores teaware in its many forms to learn about what goes into a functional piece that pours, fits, and feels just right. You’ll be guided through the making of a complete set: a teapot with a perfectly fitted lid and spout, a pair of matching cups with built-in strainers, or a traditional matcha bowl, and a stand for your matcha whisk.

This class is designed for potters who are already comfortable centring clay, pulling even walls, and trimming with confidence. It offers a chance to learn throwing off the hump to build a cohesive project, guided by an instructor known for their deep knowledge, skill, and thoughtful approach to form.

Along the way, you’ll develop skills that elevate your throwing and assembling techniques. You’ll practice throwing off the hump to create precise small forms, learn the spout geometry that makes for a smooth and drip-free pour, and refine lid galleries for a satisfying fit. The course also covers built-in strainers, ergonomic handles, and multi-part assembly, with attention to drying methods, stability, and the proportions that make a set feel unified. The focus is on both the technical and aesthetic details that give a piece life.

At its heart, Spill the Tea is about more than making functional teaware—it’s about embracing objects that invite quiet rituals of connection, pause, and reflection.
