Early-Winter 2026 Beginner+ Thrown & Altered

This six-week course will guide you through a mix of demonstrations and hands-on practice, showing how to re-shape thrown pieces, attach elements, and develop forms that feel intentional and balanced. It’s a class for potters who want to experiment, challenge their habits, the rimming isn't the last step!

It is designed for students who already feel comfortable centering about 1kg of clay and are ready to explore new ways of shaping their work. It’s a playful, skill-building class that takes throwing beyond the basics, into cutting, altering, and refining forms while keeping them functional.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to cut and reshape thrown pieces while maintaining structure
  • Altering forms to create dynamic, aesthetically pleasing silhouettes
  • Attaching handles and components securely and cleanly
  • Using callipers for fitted forms and lids
  • Balancing form and function in design
  • Developing a personal style through experimentation

Good to Know     

  • You can expect to make 5+ pieces in this class. 
  • Pieces will be ready for pick-up 2-3 weeks after your glaze class.
  • Our classes are intended for adults and youth aged 15+.
  • All materials and tools are provided.
  • Dress for mess or please bring your own apron.
