DIY Studio - Your Hands, Your Process, Your Way!

Thank you for your interest in joining LOAM’s DIY Studio. Our goal with this addition is to support our mission of creating a space where potters at all stages of their practice can find a studio to continue growing and building their talent, which in turn leads to a fertile community focused on collaboration. 

We are recruiting a maximum of 10 diverse and experienced makers who are community minded and mutually supportive. The studio is designed for a mix of makers whether you are launching a professional career and learning studio skills in a safe environment, or advanced hobbyists wanting to have greater control of your practice by managing more of the technical process. Wherever you are at in your practice we have a space that will enable you to grow and develop. 

PREREQUISITES:

You must be able to use the studio safely. As a condition of joining we expect you to empower yourself by learning about good studio and making practices.

If you have no technical experience with making your own glazes, loading/unloading, firing programs, troubleshooting issues, and repairing kilns, you will be provided with a complimentary orientation with LOAM.

PAYMENT DETAILS: A monthly fee of $300 + hst  will be made by automatic credit card billing. A 1 year minimum commitment is required.

Each month members will receive 8 shared kiln firings as part of their monthly rent, any additional firings after 8 will cost $20, how this cost is shared will be organized by the group of potters working in the space.

If you wish to rent a wheel from LOAM on a monthly basis, the cost will be an additional $150 per month which will be added to the monthly recurring payment including first and last month’s rent. This cost can be shared between DIY Studio Members. You can also either bring your own wheel.

What is included: 

- LOAM will be providing 24/7 access to this semi-private space. We will provide shelving, handbuilding table, wedging surface, utility sink, access to studio slab roller and glaze-mixing area separate from working space(raw materials not included).

- LOAM will be gifting a kiln for shared use, members will be responsible for any costs associated with kiln maintenance, repairs or replacement. 

- Access to scheduled advice and guidance from staff relating to technical operating process.
