We are excited to be using our gallery space to showcase talented artists in our LOAM community.
For the month of April 2021 we have invited Anne Nicol who is a LOAM studio potter and an instructor for our Handbuilding Basics 6 Week Classes during our Late-Spring Session running from June-July!
A multidisciplinary artist, Anne has been working in clay since 2014. Her broad artistic scope includes murals painting, food styling, graphic, conceptual and interior design as well as fine art watercolour and acrylic painting and ceramics. A professional calligraphist, she has provided script for such clients as the House of Commons, the Speaker of the Senate, Royal Society of Canada and Ottawa Art Gallery.
Anne brings this wealth of artistic knowledge to her own ceramic practice, as well as her teaching. She finds great pleasure in sharing knowledge and igniting the imaginations of students as they explore their unique artistic potential.
Anne is an active member with the Ottawa Guild of Potters and its committees and is also an integral part of her family’s business, Crossford Construction.
Artist’s Statement
As a ceramicist, I love to create whimsical one-of-a-kind fun, functional and ornate art pieces, with an emphasis on innovative surface design. My background as a designer, calligrapher and painter informs my sense of colour, texture and form while also lending a refined level of detail and finish to my work. I incorporate wheel, handbuilding and sculptural elements to create unique, elegant shapes. What I enjoy most about clay as a medium is that it allows me to constantly explore new and challenging decorative techniques to express my innate creativity
As our gallery is closed due to the most recent stay-at-home order, we will be extending Anne's display to make sure everyone has a chance to see her work live once we are permitted to reopen. We also invite you to shop Anne's beautiful work on her website!
