T(W)EEN SUMMER POTTERY CAMP (Ages 12 - 16)
Looking for a pottery camp that goes beyond the basics? Our camp is designed for creative t(w)eens ages 12-16 who want to spend a week doing a deep dive into clay in a working pottery studio. This weeklong intensive offers the best of both clay worlds: wheel throwing in the morning and handbuilding in the afternoon!
🕘 Daily Schedule
9:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Wheel Throwing – Campers will experience the full life cycle of a pot, from raw clay to finished piece. They'll begin by learning how to prepare and wedge clay, then dive into foundational throwing skills—centering, pulling walls, shaping forms like cups, bowls, and cylinders. As the week progresses, they'll also learn how to trim their pieces for a refined finish, explore surface decoration techniques, and glaze their work using a curated palette of LOAM-made glazes. Along the way, campers will gain insight into the firing process and what happens behind the scenes in a working ceramics studio.
12:00 – 1:00 PM: Lunch – Bring your own lunch
1:00 – 3:30 PM: Handbuilding & Surface Design – In the afternoons, campers shift gears and explore foundational handbuilding techniques including soft slab, hard slab, coiling, and pinching. These methods offer endless creative possibilities for both functional and sculptural work. They'll also experiment with surface decorating techniques like sgraffito, monoprinting on clay, and wax resist underglaze inlay, giving their pieces depth, texture, and personality.
